EDUCATION & LEARNING

Has a cognitive or learning assessment been recommended by your child’s doctor or teacher? You may be unsure about what an assessment means or what the assessment involves.

We’re here to support you and make the complex straightforward, so you feel confident at home and your child can receive the help they need at school.

Cognitive Assessments & Aptitude Tests

Noticed your child struggling to complete tasks? Maybe your child isn’t keeping up with their peers? Or is your child having difficulty learning?

A cognitive or aptitude test helps clarify your child’s strengths and weaknesses - giving a clearer picture of where they are developmentally, so that support can be put in place to help.

Interventions for Learning Disorders

When we have more pieces of the puzzle from a cognitive assessment, we can create a targeted plan to help your child learn in and out of the classroom.

Our learning assessments are completed with our registered teacher. Recommendations are provided for the classroom that teachers can implement.

In-Class Behaviour Support

Some classroom behaviours can be challenging and children express themselves in many ways. Different factors influence how we act, for example, our peers, people around us, or our environment.

We work with you and the school to help create a plan to support your child so that they can engage and feel supported at school.

Our Clinicians

Our clinicians and highly skilled in differential learning and assessment, engaging students with diverse needs whom are both neuro-typical and neuro-divergent.

They are able to support parents to develop education and learning plans for home education, and to support the implementation of such plans while assessing educational progress and outcomes.

We adopt a person-centred inclusive approach to education that spans mainstream, private, distance, and home-school learning options.

Cognitive Testing: What to Expect
Want to know our process for testing?

PARENT INTERVIEW: We book what we call an intake session with you and the clinician. The psychologist will ask you background questions and get a detailed understanding of the history of the difficulties.

SCHOOL INTERVIEW: In some cases, we may contact the school, with your permission, to gather information about how your child is in the classroom.

BEHAVIOURAL OBSERVATIONS: The clinician will also watch your child’s behaviour during testing. So they can gather more information about your child’s behaviour “in action.” For example, do they follow instructions, are there differences in attention or concentration? These observations can help inform recommendations for the school.

COGNITIVE ASSESSMENT: It’s called an assessment, but really your child will be doing interactive activities. The activities are mostly completed on an iPad!

FEEDBACK SESSION: In the feedback session, your child’s psychologist will go over the detailed report with you. They’ll inform you of a possible diagnosis, and what they noted during the assessment. They’ll also explain any recommendations for home or in the classroom.
